Acting United States Attorney Alexander C. Van Hook announced that Jon Scot Taylor, a 69-year-old from Portland, Oregon, has been sentenced to federal prison for distributing child pornography. The sentence was handed down by United States District Judge Dee D. Drell, who ordered Taylor to serve 180 months in prison followed by 20 years of supervised release.
The case began in August 2023 when FBI agents engaged with Taylor in an undercover operation on an online chat forum. An agent posed as a 13-year-old girl and communicated with Taylor through text messaging until February 2024. During these exchanges, Taylor requested sexually explicit images and sent child sexual abuse material depicting minors aged 12 or 13.
At his guilty plea hearing, Taylor admitted to distributing visual depictions of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct across state lines using a computer. He pleaded guilty to three counts of distribution of child pornography.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney LaDonte A. Murphy.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a U.S. Department of Justice initiative aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse nationwide. The project involves collaboration between federal, state, and local resources to prosecute offenders and rescue victims.
