ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

During a week of enforcement operations from June 28, 2025, to July 4, 2025, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona charged 114 individuals with immigration-related criminal offenses. Among these charges, the United States filed cases against 60 individuals for illegally re-entering the country and against 45 for illegal entry. Additionally, seven cases were filed against eight people accused of smuggling aliens into and within Arizona. One individual was charged with assaulting a Customs and Border Protection Officer.

These cases were supported by several federal law enforcement agencies, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ICE ERO), ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), U.S. Border Patrol, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), U.S. Marshals Service (USMS), and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

Significant cases include:

In United States v. Marselino Garcia-Gonzalez: On June 27, 2025, Border Patrol Agents attempted to stop Marselino Garcia-Gonzalez on Arizona Highway 93. Garcia-Gonzalez tried to evade capture by speeding over 106 miles per hour before stopping in the median. He and two passengers fled on foot but were apprehended. The passengers were Mexican citizens illegally in the U.S., including an unaccompanied minor. Garcia-Gonzalez was charged with Transportation of an Illegal Alien.

In United States v. Victor Adolfo Zepeda-Arreola: On July 1, 2025, Victor Adolfo Zepeda-Arreola was charged with Re-entry of a Removed Alien after being previously deported in 2023 following a conviction for Attempted Burglary in Pima County.

A criminal complaint is merely a charge; all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

These actions are part of Operation Take Back America—a Department of Justice initiative aimed at curbing illegal immigration and dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations.
