United States Attorney David Metcalf has announced the sentencing of Anthony Randall, also known as "Anthony McZeal," to 25 years and 19 days in prison. This will be followed by five years of supervised release for his involvement in armed robbery and gun offenses. The sentence was delivered by United States District Judge Timothy J. Savage.
Randall, a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, faced charges following a February 2024 indictment. He was charged with two counts of robbery interfering with interstate commerce (Hobbs Act robbery) and one count of using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. Randall entered a guilty plea in March 2025.
The charges against Randall included two specific robberies: the September 1, 2021, gunpoint robbery at the CVS store on Wadsworth Avenue and the September 11, 2021, gunpoint robbery at the Philadelphia Pretzel Factory store nearby. Additionally, he confessed to committing 17 other armed robberies during the fall of 2021.
Randall's criminal activities resumed shortly after his release from federal prison in March 2021, where he had served time for six armed robberies committed in 2006.
U.S. Attorney Metcalf commented on Randall's actions: “Anthony Randall terrorized the community during his extreme armed robbery spree — all while on supervised release for his previous string of gunpoint crimes.” He emphasized that prosecuting repeat offenders is a priority for his office to enhance safety in Philadelphia.
Wayne A. Jacobs, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Philadelphia Division, stated: “No one should have to live or work in fear... Today’s sentencing sends a clear message: the FBI is unwavering in its commitment to protecting our communities and holding violent offenders accountable for their actions.”
The investigation into Randall's activities was conducted by the FBI Philadelphia Violent Crimes Task Force alongside the Philadelphia Police Department. The prosecution team included Assistant United States Attorneys Michael Miller and Amanda Reinitz.
