The American Petroleum Institute (API) has expressed approval following the U.S. House of Representatives' passage of the 2025 tax reconciliation bill. API President and CEO Mike Sommers said, "Congress has taken decisive action to advance President Trump's energy dominance agenda by passing pro-growth tax policy. This historic legislation is a win for American-made energy, consumers and the workers who power our economy." He further commended Congress for supporting the oil and natural gas sectors and anticipated President Trump signing the bill into law.
API represents various segments of the U.S. natural gas and oil industry, which supports nearly 11 million jobs in the country. The organization is backed by a grassroots movement comprising millions of Americans. Its approximately 600 members are involved in producing, processing, and distributing most of the nation's energy. API also participates in API Energy Excellence, an initiative aimed at enhancing environmental and safety progress through new technologies and transparent reporting.
Founded in 1919 as a standards-setting body, API has developed over 800 standards to improve operational safety, efficiency, and sustainability within the industry.
