Roderick Law, spokesman for the Functional Government Initiative (FGI), said that documents obtained by FGI reveal that Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) officials coordinated with external organizations to maintain diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices following the 2024 election. This statement was issued in a press release.
"These documents obtained by FGI illustrate just how deep the DEI rot went," said Law. "Immediately after the 2024 election, Ward reached out to a pro-DEI company to lay the groundwork for continued DEI practices, knowing that the future administration was going to eliminate these divisive policies. This effort was an exercise in futility, yet it goes to show the lengths these unelected bureaucrats will go to ‘save' DEI."
The Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Mission Support is responsible for enhancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility within the agency. According to the EPA’s 2025 General Statement of Appropriations, these efforts aim to promote fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all individuals regardless of race, color, national origin, or income. The agency reports that these objectives are embedded into its policies and programs.
According to the Functional Government Initiative press release, EPA Director Tyvonia Ward communicated with Gartner Inc. after the 2024 election to discuss sustaining DEI efforts. The priorities discussed included developing a strategic plan and auditing existing activities in anticipation of a transition to the Trump administration.
The EPA's DEI goals, as referenced in internal communications, included integrating diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) into hiring and promotion processes and advancing pay equity. These goals were shared with external groups and outlined as agency priorities at the beginning of the Biden administration. Meetings were conducted to plan further strategies as the administration transitioned.
Law represents the Functional Government Initiative, a nonprofit watchdog group focused on federal transparency. FGI employs Freedom of Information Act requests to investigate federal agency activities and policies. The group regularly issues press releases based on its findings.
