U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging Chairman Rick Scott and Ranking Member Kirsten Gillibrand have released the committee’s annual fraud report for 2025. The report, titled "Age of Fraud: Scams Facing Our Nation’s Seniors," highlights financial threats to aging Americans and provides ways for seniors to identify and respond to scams. It notes a significant rise in sophisticated scams, including those using artificial intelligence, with over $4.8 billion lost by seniors in 2024 alone.

Chairman Rick Scott stated, “I am proud to announce the release of the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging’s 2025 Fraud Report, which serves as a critical resource in our ongoing mission to protect America’s aging population." He emphasized the importance of initiatives like National Slam the Scam Day and the toll-free Fraud Hotline in empowering families against fraud.

Ranking Member Kirsten Gillibrand added, “Scams and fraud have a devastating and outsized impact on our seniors... As ranking member of the Aging Committee, I'm committed to continuing to fight fraud against our seniors."

The committee has also led efforts such as designating March 6, 2025, as National Slam the Scam Day and recognizing May 2025 as Older Americans Month. These efforts aim to educate and protect seniors through public education and advocacy for stronger safeguards.

For those affected by scams or seeking information, the Aging Committee’s Fraud Hotline is available at 1-855-303-9470 during weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Time.
