Ashland man indicted on multiple counts involving child pornography

Leah B. Foley United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts | Department of Justice

An Ashland man has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Boston on charges related to child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Brent Vreeland, 36, faces one count each of transportation, receipt, and possession of child pornography. His arraignment is scheduled for July 17, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. in Boston's federal court. Vreeland has been in federal custody since his arrest on April 23, 2025.

The charging documents allege that Vreeland was flagged for secondary screening at Boston’s Logan Airport after arriving from Reykjavik, Iceland in October 2024. During this screening, images and videos depicting CSAM were allegedly found on his cell phone within the Telegram Messenger app. A forensic examination reportedly uncovered about 30 media files depicting CSAM shared with unknown Telegram users. It is further alleged that he received and distributed three videos in October 2021 showing the abuse of minors aged four to ten years old.

The charges carry significant penalties: transportation and receipt of child pornography each provide for sentences of five to twenty years in prison and up to a lifetime of supervised release; possession carries a sentence of up to twenty years. All charges include fines up to $250,000.

United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Michael J. Krol, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations in New England announced the indictment. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Allegra Flamm from the Major Crimes Unit.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse.

The allegations are yet to be proven in court; Vreeland remains innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
