U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Progreso Port of Entry in Texas have detained a man wanted on a felony warrant for an alleged sexual crime in Austin. The apprehension occurred during routine checks at the Progreso International Bridge.

Port Director Michael Martinez commented on the arrest, stating, “As traffic tends to rise with the summer travel season, our frontline CBP officers continue to maintain their vigilance and apprehended a pedestrian wanted for a sex-related offense.” He added that such actions are part of daily efforts by officers to secure borders and ensure community safety.

The individual taken into custody was identified as Roberto Medina, a 19-year-old U.S. citizen. After being referred for secondary inspection, biometric verification confirmed Medina had an outstanding felony warrant issued by the Austin Police Department for sexual assault. Following his detention, Medina was handed over to Hidalgo County sheriff’s deputies.

The National Crime Information Center (NCIC), which is an automated database used by law enforcement agencies to share information on outstanding warrants among other offenses, played a role in identifying Medina. According to CBP, this database has been instrumental in previous arrests related to various crimes including homicide and narcotics distribution.

CBP emphasizes that criminal charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
