David X. Sullivan, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that Ixavier Holman Jr., 34, of Secaucus, New Jersey, has been sentenced to three years of probation. The first six months will be served under home detention for stealing mail from U.S. Postal Service collection boxes in New Haven and West Haven. U.S. District Judge Sarala V. Nagala also ordered Holman to complete 150 hours of community service.

Court documents and statements reveal that between December 2022 and June 2023, Holman used stolen keys to access blue collection boxes at post offices on Fountain Street in New Haven and Campbell Avenue and Jones Hill Road in West Haven.

Holman's arrest occurred on June 12, 2023, when he attempted another theft at the Fountain Street post office in West Haven. At the time of his arrest, he was found with two mail collection box keys. A search of his residence uncovered over 3,000 pieces of stolen mail along with USPS mail collection bins and a credit card reader and embosser. The stolen items included checks and money orders valued at more than $1.5 million.

Holman pleaded guilty to mail theft on November 20, 2024.

The investigation was led by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service alongside the West Haven and New Haven Police Departments. Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel E. Cummings prosecuted the case.
