A food safety alert has been issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) concerning a multistate outbreak of Salmonella infections linked to frozen sprouted beans. Eleven individuals across ten states have contracted the same strain of Salmonella, with four requiring hospitalization. No fatalities have been reported.
Chetak LLC Group has recalled its Deep brand frozen sprouted moong (mung) beans and frozen sprouted moth (mat) beans as of July 16, 2025. The CDC advises against consuming, selling, or serving these recalled products.
Consumers are urged to dispose of any recalled Deep brand frozen sprouted beans or return them to the place of purchase. Surfaces and items that may have come into contact with these products should be cleaned using hot soapy water or a dishwasher. Individuals experiencing severe symptoms of Salmonella should consult their healthcare provider.
Businesses are instructed not to sell or serve the recalled products and must wash and sanitize surfaces that may have been exposed to them. The Food and Drug Administration's guidelines on safe handling and cleaning should be followed to prevent cross-contamination.
Salmonella infection typically causes diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps within six hours to six days after exposure. While most recover without treatment in four to seven days, some cases can lead to hospitalization. Children under five years old, adults over 65, and those with weakened immune systems are at higher risk for severe illness.
For inquiries about specific state cases, individuals are encouraged to contact their state's health department. Media members can submit inquiries through the CDC's Request for Comment form.
The CDC continues its efforts in protecting public health by providing timely information and responding swiftly to disease outbreaks.
