U.S. Senator Jerry Moran, chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, has expressed approval for the Department of Veterans Affairs' (VA) decision to extend support for post-9/11 family caregivers. The VA announced it will continue the pause on dismissing "legacy participants" from its Family Caregiver program until September 30, 2028.
Moran stated, “VA has made the right decision to extend the pause on the dismissal of legacy participants from VA’s family caregiver program for three more years. By extending this pause, post-9/11 veterans and caregivers who have been enrolled in VA’s Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers since before it was expanded to pre-9/11 veterans in 2020 can rest assured that they will continue to be supported as VA, Congress and the caregiver community keep working to make certain this program is successful for all generations of veterans and their caregivers."
The extension applies to those enrolled in the program before September 30, 2020. The initial expansion under the MISSION Act included pre-9/11 veterans. The dismissal pause was first implemented by the VA in 2022.
Senator Moran also mentioned his appreciation for Secretary Collins' attention to this issue and his commitment to working with him on behalf of veterans and caregivers.
