Todd M. Lyons addresses shooting involving illegal aliens

Acting ICE Director Todd M. Lyons has expressed concern over the shooting of a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer by individuals identified as illegal aliens. Lyons criticized "sanctuary city policies and the Biden administration’s open border policies" for allowing these individuals to enter the United States and commit crimes without facing consequences.

The incident involved two criminal illegal aliens, one of whom had already committed an armed robbery earlier this year. The off-duty federal officer was shot during what was described as the perpetrator's second armed robbery of the year. Lyons stated, “I’m tremendously relieved that this CBP officer will recover, but the bottom line is that this shouldn’t have happened."

Lyons emphasized that such incidents underscore a lack of respect for laws and life among these criminal aliens. He reiterated ICE's commitment to removing dangerous criminals from American streets, saying, "ICE’s mission remains to remove this exact type of heinous criminal from our streets, and it will continue to do just that.”
