Following the signing of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, or H.R. 1, by President Trump, the Department of the Interior is moving forward with changes aimed at boosting U.S. energy production and timber development. The legislation is a key part of the Trump administration's Energy Dominance agenda.
The Department of the Interior's various bureaus are working to implement this significant congressional action. "The One Big Beautiful Bill Act is a historic piece of legislation that will restore energy independence and make life more affordable for American families by reversing disastrous Biden-era policies that constricted domestic energy production," said Interior Secretary Doug Burgum.
Key changes include adjustments in offshore oil and gas development, such as reducing federal royalty rates and mandating lease sales in specific areas. Onshore oil and gas development will see similar reductions in royalty rates and new requirements for lease sales in several states.
The bill also impacts coal production by reducing royalty rates and restoring federal leasing. Water infrastructure projects will benefit from an accelerated permitting process, while hydropower development access will be expanded.
Forestry initiatives include increased timber sales and prioritization of long-term contracts. Additionally, the bill addresses subsidies for wind and solar projects by eliminating certain discounts.
Under Secretary Burgum's leadership, the Department aims to advance President Trump's agenda through these actions outlined in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
