Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently engaged in a conversation with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa al-Sudani. The discussion focused on recent attacks targeting energy infrastructure, including those operated by U.S. companies. Secretary Rubio emphasized the need for the Iraqi government to hold those responsible accountable and to prevent further incidents.
Additionally, Secretary Rubio highlighted the importance of consistently paying salaries in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region and resuming oil exports through the Iraq-Türkiye Pipeline. Concerns were also raised regarding the Popular Mobilization Commission bill pending in Iraq's Council of Representatives. Secretary Rubio expressed that such legislation could institutionalize Iranian influence and armed terrorist groups, thereby undermining Iraq’s sovereignty.
