Sydney Lori Reid, a 44-year-old resident of the District of Columbia, has been charged in connection with an assault on an FBI agent. The incident occurred during the transfer of an alleged international gang member at the DC Central Detention Facility. This was announced by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.

Reid faces charges for assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers or employees.

According to the complaint, two men identified as members of the 18th Street gang were being transferred from D.C. Jail into ICE custody on July 22. One of these men had previously been arrested on firearm-related charges by the Metropolitan Police Department.

The FBI agent was assisting ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations officers outside the jail when Reid approached them and began recording video. Despite repeated commands to step back, she attempted to go around the officers and placed herself between them and one of the suspects.

As Reid attempted to obstruct the transfer, she was pushed against a wall by an ERO officer but continued to resist. An FBI agent intervened to assist in controlling Reid, who was actively struggling. During this confrontation, Reid allegedly caused injuries to the FBI agent by pushing his hand against a cement wall.

The case is under investigation by Homeland Security Investigations Washington Field Office and FBI Washington Field Office. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Dernbach is prosecuting it.
