The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced the arrest of Jose Madrid Reyes, a criminal illegal alien from El Salvador with a history of violent offenses. Reyes is accused of stalking a mother who is also a U.S. government official and has two convictions for driving while intoxicated.
Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) initiated an investigation after the unnamed government official reported fears of being stalked, expressing concern for her family's safety. HSI identified Reyes, whose criminal record dates back nearly two decades.
Reyes' criminal history includes convictions for Driving While Intoxicated in 2006 and 2019 by courts in Virginia, as well as Misdemeanor Assault on a Family Member in 2017.
On July 12, 2025, ICE arrested Reyes despite previous orders for his removal by an immigration judge in 2022 and denial of permanent legal status in 2024. Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated: “Day-in and day-out, our brave ICE agents are nabbing creeps who shouldn’t be in our country in the first place.”
Reyes will remain in ICE custody pending deportation proceedings expected to occur soon. The public is encouraged to report crimes or suspicious activity to ICE via their tip line or website.
