Today, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a statement regarding charges against two medical staffers in southern California for assaulting and obstructing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California announced federal charges against Jose de Jesus Ortega and Danielle Nadine Davila.

Ortega was arrested by DHS law enforcement today, while Davila remains at large. They face charges for assaulting a federal officer and conspiracy to prevent by force and intimidation a federal officer from discharging his duties.

Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin addressed media reports about ICE agents allegedly arresting individuals inside a medical center: “The media attempted to demonize ICE agents by saying that our agents were arresting individuals inside a medical center—but that is completely FALSE." She clarified that on July 8, during a targeted enforcement operation, one illegal alien fled near the Ontario Advanced Surgery Center in San Bernardino County, where Ortega and Davila obstructed and assaulted ICE agents.

On July 8, 2025, ICE officers conducted an operation to arrest two illegal aliens. Officers wearing clearly marked ICE bulletproof vests approached their targets as they exited a vehicle. One of them, Denis Guillen-Solis from Honduras, fled on foot near the Ontario Advanced Surgical Center where hospital staff reportedly assaulted law enforcement and dragged both an officer and Guillen-Solis into the facility.

The staff members are accused of attempting to obstruct the arrest by locking doors, blocking law enforcement vehicles, and calling police with claims of a "kidnapping."

ICE encourages reporting crimes or suspicious activity via its tip line at 1-866-DHS-2-ICE or through www.ice.gov.
