Albertsons recalls select tuna salad items over listeria concerns in four states

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

Albertsons Companies has announced a voluntary recall of select items containing tuna salad supplied by Reser’s Fine Foods at Albertsons, Randalls, and Tom Thumb stores in Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas. The recall is being conducted after Reser’s Fine Foods initiated its own recall due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes found in breadcrumbs used as an ingredient in their tuna salad.

According to the company, Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious infections in young children, elderly individuals, and those with weakened immune systems. While healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, the infection can lead to miscarriages or stillbirths among pregnant women.

"There have been no reports of injuries or adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider."

Consumers who purchased any recalled items are advised not to consume them and should either dispose of the products or return them to their local store for a full refund. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends that consumers clean and sanitize any surfaces or containers that may have come into contact with the recalled products because Listeria monocytogenes can survive refrigerated temperatures and spread easily.

The affected tuna salad items were available at Albertsons, Randalls and Tom Thumb stores across Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas. Customers seeking more information can contact Albertsons Companies’ Customer Service Center at 1-877-723-3929 from Monday through Friday between 5 a.m. and 9 p.m. PST.
