A New Haven man has been sentenced to three years in federal prison for possessing a firearm while out on bond in another criminal case, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut.

Antrum Coston, 42, received a 36-month sentence from U.S. District Judge Stefan R. Underhill in Bridgeport. The sentence will be served consecutively to a previous 37-month sentence imposed on September 18, 2023, for pandemic relief fraud, money laundering, and drug offenses.

Court records show that after being ordered to surrender for his earlier sentence on November 29, 2023, Coston was arrested by New Haven Police on October 25, 2023. Officers found him with a loaded Taurus G3 9mm handgun equipped with an extended magazine.

Coston was convicted on October 28, 2024, of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and for possessing it while on federal release. He has remained detained since his arrest.

His criminal record includes multiple felony convictions and two prior federal convictions related to firearms.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the New Haven Police Department led the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Nathaniel J. Gentile and Sean P. Mahard prosecuted the case under the Justice Department’s Project Safe Neighborhoods program. This initiative brings together law enforcement agencies and communities to reduce gun violence and violent crime; more information can be found at www.justice.gov/psn.
