Grayson County man receives 20-year federal sentence for methamphetamine trafficking

A Sherman resident has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation in Grayson County, according to an announcement from Acting U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs.

Ryan Deshaun Edd, 37, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and received a sentence of 240 months from U.S. District Judge Amos L. Mazzant, III on July 30, 2025.

Court records indicate that law enforcement began investigating Edd in November 2022 after receiving information about his involvement in trafficking large amounts of methamphetamine in the area. On November 16, 2022, officers stopped a vehicle on U.S. Highway 75 in Sherman for traffic violations. Zacheriah Alexander of Denison was driving the car, with Edd as a backseat passenger. A search revealed a plastic bag containing over one kilogram of methamphetamine and a loaded revolver.

Investigators determined that Alexander had collaborated with Edd to sell methamphetamine for about six months before their arrest. Alexander was previously sentenced by Judge Mazzant to more than eleven years in federal prison for his part in the offense.

Edd will begin serving his federal sentence after completing a separate 45-year state sentence related to an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon committed in Sherman in January 2023.

The investigation involved the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Sherman Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew T. Johnson prosecuted the case.
