Chippewa Falls man receives decade-long sentence for meth trafficking

Jason Barnard, a 39-year-old resident of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for possessing more than 500 grams of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute. The sentence was handed down by Chief U.S. District Judge James D. Peterson after Barnard pleaded guilty on May 9, 2025.

According to authorities, Barnard sold methamphetamine and fentanyl to a confidential informant on two occasions in October 2024. He was arrested while returning from Minnesota, where he obtained his supply. During the arrest, law enforcement officers found over two kilograms of methamphetamine, 85 grams of fentanyl, and $3,696 in cash in his vehicle.

At the sentencing hearing, Judge Peterson stated that Barnard’s trafficking involved “vast” quantities of drugs and called it a “very serious crime” with significant negative effects on the community.

The investigation leading to Barnard’s conviction was carried out by the West Central Drug Enforcement Task Force, the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation, and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Remington prosecuted the case.
