Mexican national sentenced to prison for illegal re-entry in Louisiana

A Mexican national, Luis A. Gama, 38, was sentenced in New Orleans on July 23, 2025, for illegally re-entering the United States after having been previously deported. The sentencing took place before United States District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown.

Court records indicate that Gama was located in Tangipahoa Parish on or around April 10, 2025. He had earlier been removed from the country and deported to Mexico on September 10, 2019.

Judge Brown sentenced Gama to twelve months of imprisonment followed by one year of supervised release.

The prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America, a Department of Justice initiative focused on addressing illegal immigration and targeting cartels and transnational criminal organizations through coordinated efforts involving the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson commented: “Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).”

Simpson also commended Immigration and Customs Enforcement for its role in investigating the case. Assistant United States Attorney Paul J. Hubbell from the General Crimes Unit led the prosecution.
