An Akron man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison following his guilty plea to drug trafficking and illegal firearms charges. Alonzo M. Strickland, 52, received the sentence from U.S. District Judge John R. Adams after pleading guilty in April to several offenses related to cocaine distribution and weapons violations.
The indictment, filed in February, charged Strickland with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, maintaining a drug premise, being a felon in possession of a firearm due to a previous conviction for drug trafficking in 2006, and possessing firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking offenses.
In addition to his prison term, Strickland will serve five years of supervised release after completing his sentence. Judge Adams handed down the sentence on July 31, 2025.
Court documents show that federal agents executed a search warrant at Strickland’s Akron residence on January 29, 2025. During the search, agents recovered digital scales and multiple bags containing over two pounds (922.99 grams) of cocaine. Eight loaded firearms were also found throughout the residence along with ammunition. The firearms included rifles such as a Savage Axis .223 caliber rifle, DPMS A-15 .223 caliber rifle, Anderson Manufacturing AM-15 .556 caliber rifle; and pistols including Kimber 1911 .45 caliber pistol, Kel-Tec P50 .57 caliber pistol, Ruger P90DC .45 caliber pistol, SCCY CPX-2 9mm pistol, and Kimber K65 .357 caliber pistol.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI Akron Field Office.
