Philadelphia man sentenced for armed robbery of North Philadelphia dollar store

A Philadelphia man has been sentenced to three years in prison for his involvement in the armed robbery of a dollar store in North Philadelphia. Khyrie Brown, 25, received a sentence of 36 months’ imprisonment, three years of supervised release, and was ordered to pay full restitution. The sentencing was handed down by United States District Judge Gerald J. Pappert.

Brown was indicted in July 2024 on charges of robbery that interferes with interstate commerce under the Hobbs Act. He pleaded guilty to the charges in March.

According to court documents and Brown’s own admissions, on November 6, 2023, at around 6:30 p.m., Brown and three others entered a dollar store located on the 2800 block of Ridge Avenue. One member of the group approached the counter pretending to purchase items while another drew what appeared to be a black handgun and directed the clerk to open the safe. Two robbers jumped over the counter while Brown and another circled behind it; Brown then took a cash drawer from the safe before leaving with his accomplices.

The four men left with about $3,000 in coins and currency. Police tracked them to an area near 30th and Gordon streets where a K9 unit found Brown hiding inside an abandoned property on North 30th Street.

“This case was investigated by the Philadelphia Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Thomas M. Zaleski.”
