Contractor agrees to plead guilty in Berkshire County half-million-dollar tax fraud case

Leah B. Foley United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts | Department of Justice

Dennis Condron, a 75-year-old resident of Cheshire and owner of D Condron Construction, has been charged with four counts of tax fraud. Federal prosecutors allege that over a three-year period, Condron concealed more than $500,000 in customer payments by cashing checks and diverting the funds to his personal accounts. According to court documents, he failed to disclose these diverted checks to his tax preparer, leading to significant underreporting of his business’s gross receipts on federal and state income tax returns.

Authorities say this conduct resulted in Condron retaining hundreds of thousands of dollars that should have been paid as taxes. A plea hearing has not yet been scheduled.

Acting United States Attorney Leah B. Foley stated: “The details contained in the charging document are allegations. The defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in the court of law.” Thomas Demeo, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation for the Boston Field Office, joined Foley in announcing the charges. Assistant U.S. Attorney Caroline Merck from the Springfield Office is prosecuting the case.
