Neuhaus Chocolates NV, based in Vlezenbeek, Belgium, has issued a voluntary recall of its Belgian Chocolate Moments Smurfs "Popping Milk Chocolates with Cookies" due to the presence of undeclared wheat. The company warns that individuals with a wheat allergy or severe sensitivity may face serious health risks if they consume the affected product.

The recalled chocolates were distributed between July 21 and August 4, 2025, through Neuhaus stores located in New York, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Washington D.C., as well as via the company's online store (https://www.neuhauschocolates.com/en_US/home). Only 150 units were sold during this period. According to Neuhaus Chocolates NV, there have been no complaints or reported illnesses linked to the product so far.

The issue was identified during an internal review. "The action was initiated after it was discovered during an internal check that product containing wheat was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of wheat," stated the company. They further explained: "Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by an exceptional combination of circumstances in which the ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) did not include the allergen on the packaging."

Consumers who are allergic or intolerant to wheat are advised not to eat this chocolate and should return it to where it was purchased. For questions, customers can contact Neuhaus Customer Care Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CEST at +32 2 568 23 00 or by email at customercare@neuhaus.be.
