Wyoming man acquitted of federal sexual abuse charges after Rapid City trial

A federal jury in Rapid City, South Dakota, has acquitted Richard Wayne Gray, a 41-year-old resident of Gillette, Wyoming. Gray faced charges of Transportation of a Minor with Intent to Engage in Criminal Sexual Activity and Aggravated Sexual Abuse with Children. The verdict was delivered on July 25, 2025.

Gray had been indicted by a federal grand jury in December 2024. The case involved allegations that he transported a minor across state lines for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity.

The investigation into the matter was led by the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office in Wyoming. The U.S. Attorney’s Office prosecuted the case.
