A Charlotte man has been sentenced to more than two years in federal prison for stealing firearms from a licensed dealer. Reginald Maraeus Moses, 21, received a sentence of 27 months in the Federal Bureau of Prisons and will be under court supervision for two additional years. The announcement was made by Russ Ferguson, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina.
The case stems from an incident on February 20, 2024, when Moses crashed a stolen vehicle into Carolina Sporting Arms Company, Inc., at 8055 South Boulevard in Charlotte. According to court records, Moses and an accomplice broke into the store and stole 20 firearms—18 handguns and two long guns.
Moses pleaded guilty to theft of a firearm from a licensed dealer and aiding and abetting the same.
Russ Ferguson was joined in the announcement by Alicia Jones, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Charlotte Field Division, and Chief Johnny Jennings of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD).
"In making today’s announcement, U.S. Attorney Ferguson thanked the ATF and CMPD for their investigation of the case."
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Charlotte prosecuted the case.
This prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America—a nationwide initiative led by the Department of Justice that focuses on combating illegal immigration, dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protecting communities from violent crime through coordinated efforts involving Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
