Federal authorities have charged Devin Lopez-Dominguez, a 25-year-old inmate at the Schuylkill Federal Correctional Facility in Minersville, Pennsylvania, with possession of a weapon while incarcerated. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced that a federal grand jury indicted Lopez-Dominguez on August 12, 2025.
Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus stated that the indictment alleges Lopez-Dominguez possessed a prohibited object—a sharpened aluminum weapon—on December 22, 2024.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conducted the investigation into the incident. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah R. Lloyd is prosecuting the case.
If convicted, Lopez-Dominguez faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison, supervised release after imprisonment, and a fine. Sentencing will be determined by a judge based on federal statutes and sentencing guidelines.
“Indictments and Criminal Informations are only allegations. All persons charged are presumed to be innocent unless and until found guilty in court,” the statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office noted.
