Global tech trade association ITI has unveiled a strategic cybersecurity roadmap aimed at assisting the White House National Cyber Director, Sean Cairncross, and the Trump Administration in bolstering America's cyber defenses. The recommendations are designed to align government and private sector objectives to protect the U.S. digital economy and counter cyber threats.
John Miller, ITI's Senior Vice President of Policy and General Counsel, emphasized the necessity of collaboration between industry and government. "Tech understands that neither industry nor government can tackle current and future cybersecurity challenges independently," he said. He added that ITI’s new recommendations offer a plan that provides Director Cairncross and his team with essential resources to focus on countering threats rather than dealing with conflicting regulations.
The roadmap outlines four strategic priorities for the Office of the National Cyber Director (ONCD) to address real-world cybersecurity needs. These include empowering ONCD to coordinate federal cyber policy, reducing regulatory hurdles through AI deployment for cyber defense, enhancing public-private collaboration for information sharing, and securing funding for vulnerability management programs.
With over 80% of U.S. critical infrastructure in private hands, effective cyber policy relies heavily on industry collaboration. The roadmap suggests measures such as establishing unified incident reporting standards and preparing for quantum computing threats to maintain U.S. cybersecurity leadership.
