The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has announced the termination of 122 contracts with a total ceiling value of $1.4 billion over five days, resulting in $388 million in savings. These terminations include costly consulting contracts from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Department of Energy (DOE).

According to an Executive Order establishing DOGE, this latest batch of contract cancellations is part of a broader initiative called "Radical Transparency About Wasteful Spending." The program directs agencies to systematically review and end contracts deemed redundant or misaligned with mission-critical goals. DOGE regularly publishes termination metrics to reinforce fiscal accountability and interagency transparency.

The Department of Veterans Affairs reported the termination of 585 non-mission-critical contracts following an agency-wide audit. This action redirected more than $900 million toward direct care and benefits for veterans. VA leadership highlighted this as an example of eliminating low-priority spending to free resources for core programs, aligning with DOGE’s strategy of driving savings through targeted contract reductions.

The Pentagon, under DOGE review protocols, moved to terminate consulting and non-essential contracts with firms such as Accenture, Booz Allen Hamilton, and Deloitte. This resulted in $4 billion in identified savings. A Department of Defense memo cited these terminations as part of committed efficiency reviews targeting inflated and overlapping consulting arrangements. These cancellations underscore DOGE’s cross-agency efforts to curtail high-dollar consultancy spending.

DOGE is a federal agency focused on optimizing government spending, reducing waste, and ensuring accountability in contract management. By reviewing expenditures and canceling non-essential contracts, DOGE aims to improve fiscal responsibility and enhance the effectiveness of public resource allocation.
