Mexican national indicted for illegal reentry into eastern district of Texas

A federal grand jury in the Eastern District of Texas has indicted Joel Calzada-Macias, a 46-year-old Mexican national residing illegally in Grand Prairie, for reentering the United States after deportation. The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs.

According to the indictment, Calzada-Macias was found in the Eastern District of Texas on October 10, 2024, following a previous deportation.

The case is being prosecuted as part of Operation Take Back America. The initiative coordinates resources from the Department of Justice to address illegal immigration and related criminal activity through efforts such as the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

If convicted, Calzada-Macias could face up to two years in federal prison and subsequent deportation.

Homeland Security Investigations is leading the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Stevan Buys handling prosecution.

"A federal indictment is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law," according to the release.
