On August 5, 2025, Scotty Andrew Bascle, age 25, pleaded guilty to distributing more than 40 grams of a substance containing fentanyl. The case was announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson for the Eastern District of Louisiana. Bascle admitted guilt to charges under federal law that carry a sentence ranging from five to forty years in prison, up to $1 million in fines, at least four years of supervised release, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100. Sentencing is scheduled for November 4, 2025.
Court documents reveal that on December 12, 2023, as part of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Bascle met with individuals he believed were buyers in a Metairie drug store parking lot and sold them approximately 59.78 grams of fentanyl. In January 2024, these individuals continued direct phone contact with Bascle after an introduction from one participant.
ATF agents identified Bascle’s vehicle and obtained a search warrant for his black Toyota Camry on January 29, 2024. On January 31, another sale was arranged at the same location in Metairie. Agents observed Bascle leave his Kenner residence to place something in his car before heading to the meeting point.
With assistance from Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies, authorities stopped Bascle’s vehicle at the drug store parking lot. During a search they found a knotted baggie with about 56.38 grams of heroin and fentanyl hidden inside the car.
The investigation is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence by fostering cooperation between law enforcement agencies and communities. The Department launched an updated strategy for PSN on May 26, 2021 that focuses on building trust within communities, supporting local organizations that work to prevent violence before it starts, setting targeted enforcement priorities, and evaluating outcomes.
The case involved cooperation among ATF agents as well as deputies from both Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office and St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Sarah Dawkins is leading the prosecution.
