A federal grand jury in Pittsburgh has indicted a local resident on charges of violating federal firearms laws, according to an announcement from Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti.
The indictment names Jamar Perminter, 26, as the sole defendant. Authorities allege that on or about July 31, 2025, Perminter possessed a firearm and ammunition despite having a prior felony conviction. Federal law prohibits individuals with felony convictions from possessing firearms or ammunition.
If convicted, Perminter faces up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. The actual sentence would depend on the seriousness of the offense and his prior criminal history under federal sentencing guidelines.
Assistant United States Attorney Kelly M. Locher is prosecuting the case for the government. The investigation leading to the indictment was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Authorities emphasized that an indictment is only an accusation and that "a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty."
