The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported that a group of 15 to 20 individuals assaulted U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in San Francisco on August 20. The incident occurred while ICE agents were conducting targeted immigration enforcement at 100 Montgomery Street.
According to DHS, the rioters surrounded four federal agents outside the building, physically assaulting them by grabbing, punching, and deploying pepper spray. The agents sustained injuries including exposure to pepper spray and a jammed finger.
Adrian Guerrero, identified as a U.S. citizen, was arrested and charged with assaults and destruction of federal property. Court filings state that Guerrero slashed the tire of a government vehicle and threatened an officer with violence. While close to an officer, Guerrero allegedly said: “I’m going to fuck you up,” “I’m going to go after your family,” and “I’m going to stab you.” At the time of his arrest, he had a black knife as well as other items reportedly used during the attack.
Secretary Noem addressed the situation stating: “Our brave ICE law enforcement are now facing a 1000% increase in assaults against them as they risk their lives to arrest the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens. These acts of violence are fueled by sanctuary politicians' rhetoric vilifying our law enforcement,” said Secretary Noem. “We will not and have not let this violence stop us or slow us down. Everyday our law enforcement continues to enforce the law and arrest the most depraved criminals including pedophiles, terrorists, murderers, gang members, and sexual predators.”
Local authorities from U.S. Federal Protective Services and San Francisco Police Department responded at the scene to assist in clearing the area.
DHS also encouraged individuals interested in public safety or national service careers to consider applying for positions with ICE through join.ice.gov.
