The Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) has responded to the announcement of a new trade agreement between the United States and the European Union, which removes tariffs on commercial aircraft, aircraft parts, and components. The EU also announced plans to invest in the American defense industrial base.
An AIA spokesperson stated, “The U.S. aerospace and defense industry is a critical manufacturing and exporting sector for the United States, and the US-EU trade deal will help strengthen this key sector.
“Today’s trade announcement includes several nations that are our top trading partners, reaffirming President Trump’s commitment to building a safer, more secure, and prosperous America. Particularly, lowering barriers to trade in aircraft and aircraft parts and components will build on our four decades of exponential growth enabled by a favorable trade environment. Substantial investment by the EU into our defense industrial base is also an important win, allowing us to equip our allies and partners with the American-made products that are second to none.”
This agreement comes as aerospace exports remain a significant part of U.S. manufacturing output and employment. The removal of tariffs is expected to facilitate continued growth in transatlantic aerospace trade.
