Gonzales man receives ten-year sentence for federal drug and firearm convictions

A Gonzales man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for drug and gun offenses, according to an announcement from Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson. Jules Gibson, age 40, was sentenced on August 12, 2025, by United States District Judge Susie Morgan after pleading guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and distribute cocaine, as well as being a felon in possession of a firearm. Gibson received 120 months on each charge, with the sentences set to run concurrently. He will also serve eight years of supervised release following his prison term.

Court documents show that Gibson’s co-defendant, who also pleaded guilty, was arrested by Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies. During the arrest, law enforcement recovered clear plastic bags containing cocaine and crack cocaine, a digital scale, a Black Taurus PT 24/7 PRO handgun, and a cell phone from the co-defendant's truck. Analysis of the phone by Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office experts and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents uncovered evidence of ongoing drug trafficking activities over an extended period. The information included records of purchases and payments involving retail drug traffickers such as Gibson.

Gibson was later apprehended by patrol officers from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office while in possession of a fully loaded Taurus PT140 PRO .40 caliber pistol. He had previously been convicted of a serious drug felony, resulting in increased penalties for his latest offenses.

"This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, and to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone. On May 26, 2021, the Department launched a violent crime reduction strategy strengthening PSN based on these core principles: fostering trust and legitimacy in our communities, supporting community-based organizations that help prevent violence from occurring in the first place, setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring the results," stated officials.

The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Mark A. Miller prosecuted the case.
