The American Farm Bureau Federation has responded to the Environmental Protection Agency's recent decision on small refinery exemptions, which affect renewable fuel production. Zippy Duvall, President of the federation, highlighted the importance of renewable fuels for both the national economy and rural areas.
Duvall said, "Renewable fuels have been a tremendous success story for the country and the rural economy. The Renewable Fuel Standard has reduced our country’s dependence on foreign oil, reduced air pollution, increased farm income, and provided good-paying jobs in rural America."
He emphasized that farmers depend on a strong renewable fuel standard with solid renewable volume obligations to expand the biofuels market. According to Duvall, "EPA’s measured approach will prevent overuse of small refinery exemptions that would risk undermining the RFS and the biofuels market for farmers."
The proposed rule by the EPA aims to boost domestic fuel production while prioritizing crops grown within the country. Duvall urged the agency to continue this progress by ensuring any volume lost due to exemptions is compensated. He concluded that supporting a strong biofuels market can help reduce fuel prices and enhance energy independence.
