Honduran national pleads guilty to reentry after deportation and firearm possession

A Honduran national, Bryan Javier Perez-Espinoza, has pleaded guilty in federal court to reentering the United States after being deported and for possessing a firearm as an illegal alien. The plea was entered on August 13, 2025, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson for the Eastern District of Louisiana.

Court records show that Perez-Espinoza, 33, was discovered in Orleans Parish on March 23, 2024. He had previously been removed from the United States to Honduras on September 30, 2022.

Perez-Espinoza faces up to two years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 for reentry after removal. For the firearms offense, he could receive a maximum sentence of fifteen years in prison and another $250,000 fine. Both counts carry mandatory special assessment fees and periods of supervised release following imprisonment.

The prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America, which aims to address illegal immigration and related criminal activity by coordinating resources from the Department of Justice’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson stated: “This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime. Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).”

Simpson also acknowledged U.S. Customs and Border Protection for its role in investigating this case. Assistant United States Attorney Spiro G. Latsis is handling the prosecution.
