A Honduran national, Wilian Serrano-Moreira, age 34, has pleaded guilty to the charge of illegal reentry after removal. The plea was entered on August 26, 2025, according to an announcement from Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson for the Eastern District of Louisiana. Sentencing is scheduled for October 9, 2025, before United States District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown.
Court documents state that Serrano-Moreira was discovered in the United States on April 15, 2023. He had previously been deported on July 17, 2019 and did not have authorization from the Attorney General to return. The offense carries a maximum sentence of two years in prison, up to one year of supervised release, a fine that could reach $250,000, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.
The prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America. According to the Department of Justice, this initiative aims to use its resources against illegal immigration and target cartels and transnational criminal organizations through efforts such as the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson stated: "Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson praised the work of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations, and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office in investigating this matter." Assistant United States Attorney Jon M. Maestri from the General Crimes Unit is leading the prosecution.
