Senate Aging Committee schedules hearing on workplace protections for older Americans

Chairman Rick Scott and Ranking Member Kirsten Gillibrand of the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging are scheduled to hold a hearing titled “Protecting Older Americans: Leveling the Playing Field for Older Workers” on Wednesday, September 3. The session will focus on the contributions of older Americans in the workforce and examine the effects of age discrimination on their economic opportunities and well-being.

The hearing will feature testimony from several expert witnesses. These include David Horton, Fair Business Practices & Investor Advocacy Professor at University of California, Davis School of Law; Nancy LeaMond, Chief Advocacy and Engagement Officer at AARP; Gretchen Carlson, journalist and co-founder of Lift Our Voices; and Rachel Greszler, Senior Research Fellow at The Heritage Foundation.

According to the committee’s announcement, “The hearing will discuss the vital contributions older Americans make to the workforce, while examining the harmful effects of age discrimination on their economic potential and overall well-being.”

The witnesses are expected to provide recommendations on how Congress can improve protections for aging workers, acknowledge their value to society and the economy, and encourage ongoing employment opportunities including entrepreneurship.

The event is set for 10:30 AM in room SD-106 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building. A live broadcast will be available online.
