Senate subcommittee schedules hearing on Trump administration's national artificial intelligence strategy

U.S. Senator Ted Budd, who chairs the Subcommittee on Science, Manufacturing, and Competitiveness, has scheduled a hearing to review President Trump’s artificial intelligence strategy, “Winning the Race: America’s AI Action Plan.” The hearing is set for Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. EST in Russell 253.

The session will focus on how the administration’s plan aims to boost the development and deployment of American AI products. According to the announcement, this effort seeks to maintain U.S. competitiveness over China and promote advancements that could improve standards of living in the United States. Legislative measures to encourage innovation while preventing excessive regulation are also expected to be discussed.

Senator Budd commented on the hearing by stating:

“To win the AI race against China, we must unleash the full potential of American innovation. As the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Science, Manufacturing, and Competitiveness, prioritizing AI advancement without subjecting this technology to overregulation is critical to maintaining America’s competitive edge. I look forward to hearing from Director Kratsios as we examine how the White House’s AI Action Plan will allow Congress to collaborate with the administration on AI policy to accelerate innovation to create new jobs, improve our nation’s technological infrastructure, and ensure America leads the world into the next age of AI development.”

Senator Ted Cruz added:

“AI promises to be as transformative as the internet, unleashing a new global industrial revolution that could unlock opportunities for improving quality of life, creating jobs, and stimulating economic growth. The country that leads in AI will shape the 21st century global order. The President’s AI Action Plan is a bold step towards asserting American leadership in AI and thwarting efforts by China to attain global dominance. Congress must work alongside the President to adopt a legislative framework that promotes long-term AI growth and innovation. This hearing will provide the opportunity to discuss the ways this Committee can support the administration’s critical efforts to ensure America leads the way in the AI race.”

The sole witness scheduled is Michael Kratsios, Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.

The hearing will be livestreamed via both the committee website and YouTube.
