Alison J. Ramsdell U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the District of South Dakota
A Black Hawk, South Dakota man has been sentenced to over 11 years in federal prison for his role in a large-scale conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in the Rapid City area and on the Pine Ridge Reservation. U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier handed down the sentence to Jackie Corean, 63, on September 2, 2025.
Corean will serve 11 years and three months in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
According to court records, Corean was indicted by a federal grand jury in February 2024 for Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance and pleaded guilty on May 19, 2025.
Between January 2022 and February 2024, authorities say Corean participated with others in distributing methamphetamine throughout South Dakota. Large amounts of methamphetamine were transported from Denver, Colorado into South Dakota for distribution purposes. Investigators determined that Corean allowed his home to be used as a central location for these activities and discussed exchanging firearms for methamphetamine with other members of the conspiracy. Before he could carry out this exchange, law enforcement executed a search warrant at his residence and seized six firearms along with drug paraphernalia consistent with distribution.
The investigation involved several agencies including the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, Rapid City Police Department, South Dakota Highway Patrol, Wyoming State Highway Patrol, and North Metro Denver Drug Task Force. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Patterson.
