Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau held a call with Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to discuss the ongoing partnership between the United States and Trinidad and Tobago.
According to Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Piggott, "Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau spoke with Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to reaffirm the strength of the U.S.–Trinidad and Tobago partnership."
During their conversation, Landau recognized Trinidad and Tobago as an important partner for the United States in the Caribbean region. He also noted Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar’s public support for U.S. military operations in the South Caribbean Sea. Both officials reiterated their governments’ commitment to combating illegal narcotics and firearms trafficking.
The discussion also included regional security issues, specifically focusing on Haiti. "The Deputy Secretary also emphasized the importance of establishing a U.N. Support Office for Haiti, with both leaders underscoring the need for further support to address insecurity and violence in Haiti," according to Piggott.
