A Mexican national, Felipe De Jesus Jauregui-Acosta, 43, appeared in court on Monday to face charges of illegally reentering the United States after having previously been removed. He is charged with one count of being a deported alien found in the United States. The preliminary hearing is set for September 22, 2025, before United States Magistrate Judge Brenda N. Weksler.

According to statements from the criminal indictment and information shared during court proceedings, Jauregui-Acosta was deported from the U.S. on October 5, 2008. Authorities allege he reentered the country without authorization. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) identified him after his arrest by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police on May 4, 2025. The arrest involved charges including resisting a public officer with a deadly weapon that was not a firearm, assault with a deadly weapon on a first responder, battery with a deadly weapon on a first responder, and possession or use of drug paraphernalia.

Jauregui-Acosta was convicted on July 3, 2025, for resisting a public officer with use of a dangerous weapon.

If convicted of illegal reentry, he faces up to two years in prison as well as supervised release for one year, fines up to $250,000 and a special assessment fee.

Acting United States Attorney Sigal Chattah for the District of Nevada and Salt Lake City Acting Field Office Director Jason Knight announced the charges.

The case is being investigated by ICE’s Salt Lake City office in Las Vegas and prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada.
