Rockland man pleads guilty to federal firearm possession charge

Leah B. Foley United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts | Department of Justice

A Rockland, Massachusetts man has admitted guilt to a federal charge of possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon. Lamont Boswell, 39, entered his plea before U.S. District Court Judge F. Dennis Saylor IV, who set sentencing for December 3, 2025. Boswell also acknowledged violating the terms of his supervised release.

Boswell has been held in custody since April 3, 2025, when he was arrested for breaching conditions of his federal supervised release. The arrest followed an incident on April 2, when law enforcement officers conducted a wellness check and found Boswell unresponsive in the driver’s seat of his parked vehicle. Officers discovered a Smith and Wesson semi-automatic handgun loaded with thirteen rounds in the magazine and one round in the chamber inside the car.

At the time of this offense, Boswell was under federal supervision stemming from a previous conviction in 2021 for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. He had received a sentence of 57 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release after authorities found him illegally carrying a loaded firearm while driving.

The statute under which Boswell is charged allows for up to fifteen years in prison, up to three years of supervised release, and fines reaching $250,000. Sentencing will be determined by the court based on established guidelines and statutes.

United States Attorney Leah B. Foley stated: "United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Bryan DiGirolamo, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, Boston Field Division made the announcement." She noted that assistance came from both Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and Scituate Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Fred M. Wyshak III is handling prosecution.

This case falls under Operation Take Back America—a national effort by the Department of Justice designed to address illegal immigration issues as well as combat cartels and transnational criminal organizations through coordinated initiatives such as Project Safe Neighborhoods and Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces.
