A Shiprock resident has been indicted on federal charges related to the sexual assault and kidnapping of two minors in Indian Country, according to court documents released Tuesday.
Keanu Lee, 33, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, is accused of forcibly sexually assaulting a minor referred to as Jane Doe 1 between June 2024 and February 2025. Prosecutors allege that Lee also kidnapped Jane Doe 1 and assaulted her, resulting in serious bodily injury. The indictment further states that between 2012 and 2014, Lee sexually assaulted a second minor victim identified as Jane Doe 2.
Lee faces three counts of aggravated sexual abuse, one count of sexual abuse, one count of kidnapping, and one count of assault resulting in serious bodily injury. He will remain on conditions of release pending trial, which is scheduled for January 12, 2026. If convicted on all charges, Lee could face up to life in prison.
“U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Acting Special Agent in Charge Philip Russell of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office made the announcement today.”
The case was investigated by the Farmington Resident Agency of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office with assistance from the Navajo Nation Police Department and Navajo Department of Criminal Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Meg Tomlinson is prosecuting.
“The FBI continues to investigate Lee’s involvement in crimes against other victims. If you have reason to believe you or someone you know may be a victim, or have information about Lee, please call the FBI at (505) 889-1300 or submit tips online at tips.fbi.gov.”
Authorities remind the public that an indictment is an allegation and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
