Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Michael Rigas is visiting Mexico City and Nuevo Laredo from September 8 to 11. The trip aims to build on progress made during Secretary Rubio’s recent visit, with a focus on the safety and security of U.S. citizens, strengthening diplomatic facilities, and ensuring that foreign assistance supports U.S. interests.
According to the Department of State, “Deputy Secretary Rigas’ travel further underscores the United States’ commitment to ensuring the safety and security of U.S. citizens, strengthening our diplomatic facilities abroad, and verifying that our foreign assistance advances U.S. interests.” The department also stated, “This trip will also reaffirm the importance of combating transnational crime and promoting regional prosperity and security.”
The visit is expected to reinforce U.S. mission operations in Mexico by focusing on preparedness, efficiency, and operational excellence.
