A North Las Vegas man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison and five years of supervised release for distributing and possessing with intent to distribute more than 30 pounds of methamphetamine in the Las Vegas area. United States District Judge Gloria M. Navarro handed down the sentence, following a government recommendation of 135 months.

Court documents state that Efrain Macias-Amaral entered the United States illegally. Between June and July 2024, he distributed and possessed over 15 kilograms of methamphetamine. On June 11, 2024, Macias-Amaral sold more than 2,000 grams of methamphetamine to an individual. He made another sale of 2,000 grams on July 3, 2024. Police stopped his vehicle on July 11, 2024; a search led officers to find a suitcase containing plastic baggies with over 11 kilograms of methamphetamine in the trunk. At the time of the stop, Macias-Amaral presented a Mexican identification card under the name Juan Rea Estrada.

In April 2025, Macias-Amaral pleaded guilty to two counts of distribution of a controlled substance—methamphetamine—and one count of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance—methamphetamine.

“Acting United States Attorney Sigal Chattah for the District of Nevada and Deputy Special Agent in Charge Anthony Chrysanthis for DEA’s Los Angeles Division made the announcement.”

The investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Edward Penetar prosecuted the case.
