Jemez Pueblo man sentenced to over five years for sexual abuse of minors

A man from Jemez Pueblo was sentenced to 63 months in federal prison for sexually abusing two minors. According to court documents, Tyler Chinana, 35, committed unlawful sexual contact with a minor under the age of 12 in 2012. In a separate incident in November 2022, he engaged in similar conduct with another minor who was also under the age of 12.

Chinana pled guilty to two counts of abusive sexual contact. After serving his prison term, he will be subject to ten years of supervised release and must register as a sexual offender. There is no parole in the federal system.

U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Acting Special Agent in Charge Philip Russell of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office announced the sentence. "The FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office investigated this case with the assistance of the Jemez Pueblo Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Meg Tomlinson prosecuted the case."
